A customer inquired in looking for an ergonomic solution to pick up parts weighing 50 pounds. They were lifting the parts by hand, so they wanted a solution that would prevent injury and keep their workers safe.

The PM-33A Part Manipulator was chosen for this application to go with a custom end effector. The end effector utilizes a pneumatic gripper to clamp on the sides of the part. The fingers of the gripper have a “V” shape that can accept an outside diameter of 5”-7”. The fingers are lined with a knurled rubber to ensure a secure grip and prevent scratching of the part. In addition, the end effector can rotate roughly 200º about the vertical axis.
The up and down movement of the part manipulator is controlled using a joystick, and the open and close operation is controlled using a lever valve.
